Downtown Los Angeles

Not having much today, I’m posting a few shots of skyscrapers and other buildings in Downtown Los Angeles. I took these during this past Christmas holiday.

  1. These really make me miss ‘tall buildings’ (my highly technical term for skyscrapers – something that does not exist in my part of the world…unless I drive a couple hours south). I grew up on the west coast and miss the landscape. Nice photos – thanks for sharing!

    • You know, I’m not sure which is tallest. They seemed about the same to me, but then again, I was standing next to the one that’s reflected 🙂

  2. I like not only the reflections of the first one, but also the texture contrast between the sleek buildings and the pouffy clouds. There’s a lot going on that’s good about that one.

I had an odd anxious feeling about the middle one, and I wonder if it’s because it brings back that awful relationship between skyscrapers and airplanes? Strange that I feel that, but understanding given the times.

The bottom one contrasts the repetitive imagery of the front traditional-looking buildings with the asymmetry of the back modern looking buildings.

    • Thank you 🙂

I hadn’t seen the middle image from that perspective, but it’s an interesting twist. There were a bunch of jet trails crisscrossing the sky that afternoon and I thought it looked good; The connection to 9/11 didn’t occur to me 🙂

On the last one, you got exactly why I thought the shot was interesting!

      • It really doesn’t look like 9/11, but I felt an anxiety and wondered if that was why.

Cool I got what you were thinking on the last one! 😀

  3. Giants. Clad in armour, they loom overhead and watch you sneak by.

There’s a tint to these shots. Did you shoot them through the sunroof glass of a car?

    • Good analogy! 🙂

I think that tint is just the interesting atmospheric light I’ve noticed around the area. I only tweaked exp and contrast a bit on these, if I remember correctly.

What do you think? Tell me, pleeease ...
